Product Overview

The Lynx Smart BMS 500 replaces the need for a separate BMS and DC distribution enclosure in lithium battery installations. It sits within the Lynx modular busbar system, keeping the DC distribution compact and the wiring straightforward. The 500A rating covers most residential, commercial off-grid and larger marine or vehicle installations running Victron lithium batteries.

Communication is handled over VE.Can, which means the BMS can instruct connected Victron inverter/chargers and MPPT solar charge controllers to reduce or stop charging when the battery reaches its upper voltage limit, and to shed loads or shut down when the lower limit is approached. This closed-loop control is more reliable than relay-based systems because it acts before a hard disconnect is needed, reducing stress on the battery and connected equipment.

The pre-alarm function is particularly useful in live systems: it gives the GX device and connected equipment advance notice of an impending disconnect, allowing a controlled shutdown rather than an abrupt power loss. All data is visible through the Victron GX device and the VRM online portal, giving installers and end users full visibility of battery state, cell voltages and system status.

Installation Notes

The Lynx Smart BMS 500 must be installed by a qualified electrician or experienced system integrator familiar with high-current DC lithium battery systems. Ensure all Lynx system modules are correctly torqued to the M8 busbars and that the VE.Can bus is properly terminated at both ends.
